GMYN’s young people step into the world of work

June 24th, 2025

Young people at GMYN have been getting opportunities to explore different careers and gain invaluable insights from industry professionals across Greater Manchester through our Building Connections World of Work programme.

Through the programme our young people have shadowed a Coca-Cola representative in the Northern Quarter, visited the Granger Reis for a career workshop, got a behind the scenes glimpse of the Laltex Group site and taken a trip to Salford Fire Station.

All the visits have helped our young people turn their career goals into practical, hands-on experience by stepping into the world of work.

Behind the scenes glimpse at Laltex Group

Together with young people from Wigan & Leigh Youth Zone, a group of young people from GMYN were given a tour of the site Laltex Group site in Leigh where they had the opportunity to speak with marketing, design, warehousing and finance professionals.

The HR team shared expert CV tips to help the young people stand out in future job applications and the group even spoke to the company’s chief executive Sanjay Mulchand, who inspired them to work hard and not give up.

To top it all off the young people got hands-on experience printing their own personalised water bottles.

One young person summed it up perfectly, saying: “This is really cool, feels like I’m in Harry Potter!”

A huge thank you to Laltex Group for championing our young people and helping them gain more confidence and raise their aspirations.

Trip to Salford Fire Station

A group of our young people seized the amazing opportunity to visit Salford Fire Station.

The group had lots of fun touring the station, checking out the fire engines and equipment, and even trying on the firefighter uniform. They also got to see a live demonstration of how firefighters cut open a car during a road traffic collision – a real eye-opener into the incredible work they do every day.

A huge thank you to Faye – a former GMYN staff member who is now a firefighter – for making this visit possible!

‘Day in the Life’ shadowing session with Coca-Cola representative

During a ‘Day in the Life’ session our young people got an exclusive look into the fast-paced world of sales and advertising by shadowing Coca-Cola rep and long-standing GMYN supporter, Michael Rippin before a surprise lunch at Chaii latte.

Careers workshop at executive search agency Granger Reis
A group of young people also took part in a careers workshop at the offices of executive search agency Granger Reis.

The workshop focused on CV writing, interview preparation and personal branding and the young people heard from guest speakers and were given an office tour.

Building Connections Event

During a Building Connections event employers and our young people came together to discuss the challenges they face accessing work experiences placements, with employers offering practical support and guidance.

The experience helped the young people grow in confidence, make meaningful connections, and feel more prepared to take their first steps into the world of work.

We’re so proud of everything our young people have achieved!
