Online Training – What Makes a House a Home?
Welcome
This training will help you understand the experiences of young people leaving care—and what “home” really means to them. You don’t need any prior knowledge. We’ll guide you through it, step by step.
Shaped by young people
This training has been co-designed with GMYN’s care leaver youth voice group. Everything you’ll see is grounded in real experiences—what’s helped, what hasn’t, and how you can make a difference. Because the best way to understand these journeys is to hear directly from those who have lived them.

What you’ll learn
As you work through the training, you will:
- Build your understanding of the different journeys young people take when leaving care
- Learn about the challenges they may face.
- Explore what helps young people feel safe, settled and supported
- Feel more confident in how you can respond and make a difference
Why this matters
For many young people, having a house doesn’t always mean having a home.
Feeling safe, supported and valued can make all the difference during this time.
This training will help you understand how that support looks in practice—and the role you can play.
