We’re taking referrals for the UK Youth Summer Jobs Programme

At GMYN we’re recruiting young people to take part in the UK Youth 2025 Summer Jobs Programme!
The programme empowers young people aged 16–20 who are at risk of violence by providing transformative five-week paid work placements, supported by dedicated youth workers.
We’re now taking referrals for eligible young people from Salford, Stockport and Trafford. Referrals close on Friday 16th May 2025.
The programme will run during the summer holidays and includes:
• One preparation week from Monday 21st July – Friday, 25th July
• Five weeks of paid work experience – Full time (25hrs) from Monday 28th July – Friday 29th August
• Wraparound support from a youth worker including in placement 1:1s
• A celebration event
Commissioned by UK Youth, the programme combats the barriers that many young people face in gaining employment by enabling young people to develop essential skills and confidence.
The Summer Jobs Programme is specifically designed to reduce the risk of youth violence by providing structured opportunities that empower young people and build brighter futures.

Last year, the programme successfully engaged 500 young people, and this year the programme is expanding and running as a Randomised Control Trial (RCT). This means that young people will have a completely random 50 per cent chance of being placed either in the intervention (Group 1) or the control group (Group 2). Further information about how this works if available in this video.
· Group 1: This group of young people will receive a placement with Summer Jobs.
· Group 2: This group of young people will not receive a placement with Summer Jobs.
Young people placed in Group 2 who refer themselves through GMYN will still be able to take part in activities at GMYN over the summer to prepare them for employment.
Activities will include World of Work visits to employers to give an insight into different careers, and a Job Club that will provide employability support including CV workshops, job searching tips, support with applications, interview techniques, and access to placements via our partners.
Young people who refer through GMYN will also be eligible for an Our Pass membership that provides free bus travel across Greater Manchester for a one-off £10 fee. Members can also get half-price off-peak one day and weekend travelcards on Metrolink.
Our Pass memberships also come with a range of offers and experiences including discounts, swimming and leisure passes and taster sessions.
The Summer Jobs programme is also part of a study funded by the Youth Endowment Fund, Youth Futures Foundation and DCMS, and delivered by UK Youth and Local Delivery Partners, and evaluated by IFF Research.

The programme builds evidence on the best ways to support the most vulnerable young people across the country by keeping them safe and improving their future involvement in education, training, and employment.
