GMYN offers employers opportunity to take part in new youth employability programme to help young people thrive

September 30th, 2025

GMYN is offering employers the opportunity to transform the lives of young people from across Greater Manchester through its new youth employability programme ‘Level Up’.

‘Level Up’, sponsored by the inclusive retail platform N Brown, provides young people aged 16 to 25 who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) with work experience and training in careers they are passionate about.

GMYN is inviting employers to take part in the programme by hosting four-week placements to help young people across the region gain the vital skills and confidence they need to succeed in the workplace.

As part of the programme the team at GMYN will take care of recruitment, work checks, and young people’s payrolls and payment to allow employers to focus on providing safe and productive placements.

A spokesperson from GMI Construction, that regularly hosts work placements for young people supported by GMYN, said: “By hosting a work placement, employers don’t just provide experience—they shape futures, inspire potential, and invest in the next generation of talent.”

The ‘Level UP’ programme includes 25 hours of paid training, covering essential skills like financial literacy, resilience and workplace expectations, as well as four-week paid work placements tailored to the interests of the participants.

Programme schedule:

  • 29th September – 17th October: Recruitment, onboarding and one-to-one support.
  • 20th – 24th October: Accredited training week (workplace expectations, financial literacy, resilience).
  • 27th October – 21st November: Work placements (4 weeks).
  • 24th – 28th November: Recognition and reflection week.
  • 1st – 12th December: Refresher sessions, future-focused one-to-ones and next steps.

N Brown has committed the funding needed for 10 young people to participate in the ‘Level Up’ 12-week programme.

GMYN’s CEO Alex Fairweather, said: “It’s an extremely challenging time for young people looking to take their first step on the career ladder. It’s clear from both employers and the job seekers themselves that new starters are not always arriving with the preparation they need to succeed, and more urgent work needs to be done to get young people excited and ready for work.

“We’re extremely proud to have been selected as N Brown’s charity partner, and grateful for the support they are providing for our ‘Level Up’ programme. As a major employer in Greater Manchester, they recognise the importance of ensuring the next generation feel comfortable and confident in the workplace, so that Manchester businesses can continue to thrive.”
