Meet our new Chair of Trustees, Liam McDaid-Jones

August 19th, 2024

I am proud to be part of #TeamGMYN as the newly appointed Chair of Trustees. I hope that I can use my knowledge of being a Headteacher for over a decade and my current role as an Education Consultant to grow GMYN and achieve my ambitious plans.

I know how important it is for charities like GMYN to support young people, as I too was a young person in the North West who used similar services that gave me incredible life experiences I never would have had otherwise.

I’ve worked with 11-19 year olds in secondary schools for a long time, and have dealt with all the issues that young people face. Working in a school I was able to sign post support to young people, but couldn’t support further than that. That’s why I’m proud to have joined GMYN where young people are given further skills and help to develop and be more confident in the next stage of their life.

I am delighted that our new and ambitious three-year strategy will be announced next week, marking the next phase of our charity’s growth and impact. For the past 17 years, Greater Manchester Youth Network has positively influenced the lives of over 11,000 young people across Greater Manchester. This strategy outlines our goals to reach even more individuals aged 10-25, guiding them towards adulthood.

GMYN is more than just a charity; we inspire and uplift young people to help them achieve their potential. We provide vital support and resources to help them thrive, even in the most challenging circumstances. Our unwavering commitment to fostering growth, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose is at the core of our mission, creating a nurturing environment for all.

This strategy has been developed with young people at its heart, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met. All stakeholders have had the opportunity to contribute, embedding our values and vision, encapsulated in, ‘#YoungPeopleCan’.

As a board, our responsibility is to ensure that this strategy is brought to life, allowing young people across Greater Manchester benefit from the programmes, support and opportunities we offer. I look forward to creating an effective committee with a board that can all provide their skills and knowledge to support our young people.

I want to expand GMYN’s footprints further across Greater Manchester, to provide more support and guidance to young people that vitally need our help.
