“I really believe in helping young people” Brad speaks about working at GMYN

November 5th, 2024

Brad has worked for GMYN for over 3 and a half years, and works with care experienced young people in Salford.

Working as a Programme Coordinator has brought new challenges to Brad, and he enjoys working for GMYN in more ways than one.

Brad says: “Before I worked at GMYN I ran a social enterprise for 15 years, centred around the discussion of mixed-race identity. This was a self-funded enterprise and I also developed a hair care product for mixed-race people. The online business runs itself now, and I’m lucky to be able to work for GMYN as well.

“As a founder of a business I wanted to use a different set of skills rather than leading a business. I’ve worked in the corporate world previously but wanted to make a connection with young people.

“Working with young people uses different skills, and after being self-employed for so long I wanted to work for an organisation that valued it’s employees.”

Brad works with young people who have experience of care, which he says stretches him in ways he didn’t know was going to happen.

“By working in the charity sector I see how people are put before tasks, which you don’t see often in the corporate world. Everyone who works at GMYN has shared values, and wants to work as a team together. You wouldn’t think GMYN was a small organisation because of our big ambition.

“We all have lots of different skills that we can learn from each other, which makes me very happy that I work in this sector.

“GMYN’s backstory is one of the main reasons I wanted to work for the charity, I really believe in helping young people which is our mission.”
