Young people from our Beeing Together programme take centre stage
We had a great time yesterday at the North West Regional Conference on Unaccompanied Children and Young Refugees.
Our unaccompanied asylum seeking children programmes work with young people in the UK who are undergoing an individual asylum process for leave to remain.
There is a growing need for programmes supporting unaccompanied asylum seeking children and we provide vital provisions to ensure these young people have pathways out of isolated positions to engage in their wider community and build new relationships.
We provide a variety of fun and wellbeing-focused activities across Greater Manchester. These are attached to skills development, social action projects and advice networks for the young people to participate in while waiting for their cases to be assessed.
We held a stall at the conference where we could meet other people and talk to different colleagues across the North West who also work in this sector.
We were able to learn about different organisations and listen to talks including an inspirational speech from Lord Alf Dubs.
In the afternoon two of the young people in our Beeing Together programme spoke on the young people’s panel in front of 250 people.
Advice from our panel speakers for new young people arriving in the UK seeking safety included “Stay patient, stay active” and “Be strong and focus on your future”.
Well done to the young people that spoke on the panel and represented GMYN.
