GMYN x Westwood Cup is less than a month away!

June 18th, 2024

We are delighted to announce Westwood Recruitment as the title sponsor for our charity 5-a-side football tournament supporting young people in Greater Manchester.

On Thursday 4th July, sixteen teams, made up of local businesses and GMYN’s young people, will battle it out for the chance of becoming GMYN x Westwood Cup Champions.

The tournament is taking place at Goals Manchester between 1:30pm and 5pm. This will be followed by a celebratory prize-giving ceremony.

In a summer where football fever is at an all-time high, this tournament couldn’t come at a better time falling just before the quarterfinals of the Euros.

Westwood Recruitment will be supporting GMYN by match-funding the amount raised. All the proceeds from the tournament will go towards our initiatives for young people across Great Manchester.

GMYN provide a vital support service that doesn’t exist elsewhere, delivering urgent, tailored support based on each young person’s needs. We strive to make life-changing differences to young people’s lives, to help break them out of isolation and give them the confidence and ability to make a positive transition to adulthood.

A crucial part of our work is keeping care-experienced young people safe. Care leavers are incredibly vulnerable and most lack any support network, which is what GMYN is able to provide.

A young person who takes part in our Manchester care leavers programme says: “GMYN has turned my life around. If it weren’t for them, I don’t know where I’d be right now –they are like my family.”

Phil Harris, Income and Partnerships Lead, says: “We can’t wait to kick off the inaugural GMYN x Westwood Cup on Thursday 4th July. Many of the young people we support love playing football so this will be a fitting way for them to engage with our business community and to raise vitals fund for our programmes.”

Chris Couser, Director of Westwood Recruitment, says: “Working with Greater Manchester Youth Network, gives us, at Westwood Recruitment, a great opportunity to give back to our local community and support our aspiring youth.

“We built a great relationship with Phil Harris, who is a real inspiration, and talked about how we at Westwood can help GMYN and create a bigger impact. GMYN have supported us with special EDI training and we have helped with workshops for young people just starting out in the working world. This partnership was inevitable and there is lots more to come.

“We are most looking forward to the opportunity to break down some walls and let loose with our team, supporting a great cause whilst we are at it and meeting some fantastic new connections. Bring it on!”

If you’d like to pitch in and help make a difference to the lives of young people in Greater Manchester, there’s still time to get involved. We have already raised £7,000, but we’d love to get to £10,000 with your support.

We have lots of young people taking part in various teams, and we’d love for local businesses to sponsor them. Sponsors would get their name on our promotional material as the team sponsor.

Please email [email protected] if you are interested in supporting the GMYN x Westwood Cup.
